Summer Chemo Caps

One of my favorite brands,
Peaches & Cream, made from
100% USA grown cotton.
Wondering what type of yarn to use when making summer chemo caps? I personally use 100% cotton. It's easy to find, fairly inexpensive, comes in a variety of colors and is perfect for cancer patients. The soft cotton is easy on the tender scalp and is much cooler than acrylic.

It's important to keep the head covered when outdoors because certain medicines may make the skin more sensitive to the sun. Having a hat that completely covers the scalp and that keeps the patient cool is key.

Keeping the chemo caps clean is also very important for patients and will help alleviate the possibility of sores. Cotton is easy to manage... hand wash, reshape and dry flat. Be aware of any allergies. Some patients find that certain detergents and softeners can affect them.

We have several free hat patterns listed that can be used with cotton. Hope you find this info helpful. Please email me at info@crochetforcancer.com with any questions. God Bless and happy crocheting!

One Amazing Day!

It was absolutely amazing. We delivered 41 chemo caps and a few lap blankets to 4 locations around South Bend, Indiana on April 17, 2012. The video below is of Gwen P., a wonderful nurse at Memorial Hospital's Infusion Center who has experienced first hand how the free hats have uplifted the patients. Thank you everyone for donating and helping us with this cause. We are in the process of planning our May, 2012 delivery.

Donation Scripture Tags

We have created scripture tags for your crochet and knit items. Simply print, cut out and attach to your items prior to donating them. You are welcome to use the tags for items you donate to your local hospitals, cancer centers and doctor offices as well. Our goal is to encourage and support those who have lost their hair taking chemo or radiation by giving them a free handmade hat and uplifting them with a verse from the bible.

The tags are in PDF format. Please contact me if you have any questions or trouble downloading the tags
