Chemo Hat & Flower Patterns

If you are interested in helping crochet chemo hats & beanies I found a great pattern. It's a simple double crochet with a single crochet ribbing around the bottom. I tweaked it a little to make it a bit larger but the original pattern is fine to. I embellished it with a flower and button.

I have posted a few free hat patterns in my blog that I have found on the web and thought would be good to use when making chemo hats. Feel free to experiment with patterns and create your own style. We accept any style crochet/knit hat donations.

Patterns vs. Video Tutorials

Maybe I am the only one but I find it somewhat hard to read crochet patterns. Even some of the easy or intermediate patterns are kind of tricky for me. Granted I am only 6 months into this new wonderful world of crochet, but I think the patterns are extremely intimidating for someone in the beginning stages of learning. Especially if they are doing it on their own. I made up my mind I was determined to learn and I found a great way to decipher patterns. Where you ask? Ha, it was on a video tutorial! I originally learned to crochet by watching my mom. After I had the basics down I wanted to branch out and make other types of items and try new patterns so I searched the internet and found a lady that has hundreds of video tutorials on anything you want to make. I really learned "The Art of Crochet" by watching her videos. Thank you Teresa Richardson for helping me learn to crochet and for creating a tutorial on symbols and terms.

We Made a Delivery!

Praise God! Today we donated 18 hats, 3 scarves and 1 lap blanket to oncology patients in South Bend, Indiana. For those of you who helped by donating yarn or crochet/knit items I want to say thank you. The cancer center we donated to was completely out of hats and only had a few scarves to choose from so our donation really helped and was blessing.

Just a few of the hats donated with matching scarves.
Our next delivery will be in mid-April. This is completely voluntary and we accept any type of crochet/knit items. Some people have asked if we have any limitations on the types of items, and as of right now we simply ask that the items donated be handmade, new, smoke free and pet hair free. If you choose to make a hat please remember that most people that have lost their hair due to treatment prefer soft hats that do not have holes in the pattern.

Thank you again for supporting our efforts. Please help us spread the word about our cause. Like us on facebook at www.facebook.com/crochetforcancer.

Latest Project: Granny Square Lap Blanket

My latest project is coming along. I started this about 2 weeks ago and have worked on it a little everyday. I really like the colors I chose for this one. I used Caron One Pound yarn 100% acrylic medium 4; colors used are nutmeg, off white, and lace. I also used light sage from Red Heart.

It's my second granny square blanket ever. I hope to have it done soon so I can donate it to a very deserving cancer patient.

Almost finished. I still need to complete a few rows.

I decided to join the granny squares with the nutmeg.

Close up of the joined squares.

Give, And It Will Be Given To You

"Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." Luke 6:38

It really doesn't take much to show someone you care. I am looking for people to partner with me in this endeavor to create hats, scarfs and lap blankets for cancer patients. If you know how to knit or crochet and would like to donate your time and skills please contact me at idigcrocheting@gmail.com or you can simply ship your items to:
